The Sun Cottage |
|
With the completion of the adjacent Cefn Viaduct in the mid 1880's, a new railway link was formed which effectively killed off the coaching trade and eventually put the 'Sun Inn' out of business. It later became a small boarding school, of a type peculiar to North Wales until the early years of the present century. The cottage is listed as a property of historic interest and retains a wealth of original character features such as open beams and Inglenook fireplaces. From the dining room there is a breathtaking view of the River Dee in its dramatic, wooded valley spanned, in the distance, by a graceful modern road bridge. Offa's Dyke long distance footpath, the Llangollen Canal and Telford's renowned Aqueduct are all within easy walking distance, whilst the area boasts an almost unlimited range of interesting, historic and picturesque places worthy of exploration by car or cycle. How to Find Us Pentre is a small village 2km North of Chirk, just off the A5 on the B5605 (formerly known as the A483) which is signposted from the A5 to 'Cefn Mawr'. At Pentre the Offa's Dyke path makes an acute change of direction by the canal. 'Sun Cottage' is at the lower end of the village, the white house by the Phone Box. |
